Spacial started as a project to develop a drone that could safely and quietly film indoor events. For large events, a typical multi-rotor drone isn't appropriate, so my partners and I decided to develop a blimp that had the best in drone technology, something that did not yet exists. We designed and developed a drone blimp from the ground up, and saw it through several prototype iterations.
Working with existing electronics, and devising some new systems, we were able to bring the best in current drone technology safely indoors over crowds of people. This involved a lot of tinkering, trial and error and learning new skills.
The design of a blimp involves a lot of testing, so we had to inflate a lot of balloons with helium to try out new designs. This shows one of our first prototypes being inflated for flight testing.
